Types Of Therapy

As an integrative counsellor, I am trained in different styles of therapy.

Different styles suit different clients or concerns, but I may draw upon a combination to make sure that I am providing the best therapeutic experience for you.

PERSON-CENTERED THERAPY

Person-centered therapy empowers the client to take ownership of their mental well-being.
The client is the centre of the work done, not necessarily the labels or medical diagnosis that they feel they may carry. The client is the expert on themselves and is empowered to take control of the therapeutic process.
The belief is that every person, regardless of their mental health struggles, has what they need within them to reach their full potential.
This approach rejects the idea that human beings are flawed and require treatment for their problematic behaviours. Instead, it helps clients to identify what resources they already have and provides supportive tools and techniques they need to understand themselves and achieve positive change in their lives.

RELATIONSHIP THERAPY

Relationships are any relationship of significance and may be couples, siblings, parent/child, open, polyamorous and more.
Most difficulties in relationships lay at the level of communication. The need for communication is within every living being and sometimes we make a complete mess of it.
So where do we begin? How do we improve our relationships?
We need patience, understanding, compassion, empathy, and the ability to listen, but what is also crucial is honesty.
I will not be a referee in sessions, I will not sit and watch a verbal attack and I will call out certain behaviours.
Relationship therapy requires commitment from all parties, I will commit to the process if you will.

WALK AND TALK THERAPY

Sometimes sitting in a room and talking is just too much. Let’s take the therapy to the outside!
With beauty surrounding us, we can find the calmness of nature, take a deep breath of fresh air, and incorporate that into working through whatever is going on for you.
As your mind and body calms, you will be able to find your voice, or maybe just listen to that of your therapist as you walk side by side.
There is no need to look at a face, or to feel you are being seen in a particular way. There would be no awkwardness, weird pauses or feeling uncomfortable in a chair.
The surroundings would be used to benefit storytelling, providing distractions, if that is what you need and you can always walk away.
This type of therapy needs to be planned, agreed and time considered and may be used in combination with sessions in the traditional setting of an office.

LIFESPAN INTEGRATION THERAPY

Lifespan Integration Therapy works by addressing how traumatic memories are encoded in the neural networks of the right brain, particularly in the amygdala and hippocampus.

When trauma overwhelms our emotional system, these brain structures become conditioned to react protectively to similar future events. This creates a memory “limbo,” holding the trauma unresolved and leaving parts of us stuck in the past, limiting our inner resources.

An LI therapist works gently and safely in the right brain areas holding these memories, without devices, touch, or hypnosis. Through this process, it’s possible to resolve past trauma, live fully in the present, and embrace the joy life offers.

INTERNAL FAMILY SYSTEMS (IFS) THERAPY

Developed by psychologist Richard Schwartz, IFS emerged from his work as a family therapist when he observed consistent patterns in how clients described their inner lives. Schwartz noted that people often spoke about their “parts” as conflicting sub-personalities residing within them.

IFS is an approach to psychotherapy that recognizes that each individual is made up of multiple personalities or “parts.”
The mind is naturally multiple, and this is a normal and beneficial trait. Just like members of a family, these internal parts have roles and responsibilities within our system. However, some parts may be forced into extreme roles due to past experiences.

IFS therapy helps individuals heal by accessing and understanding their protective and wounded inner parts.
It fosters both inner and outer connectedness by guiding people to access their core “Self,” from which they can better understand and heal their parts.

IFS is a form of talk therapy where you will be supported in identifying, acknowledging, and understanding your own internal sub-personalities, recognise suppressed emotions, release negative feelings, and develop healthier ways to manage internal conflicts.

I understand that you are feeling anxious, worried, stressed, or at a loss as to how to feel better?

Trauma can be felt from an individual event or multiple over a period of time. Experiences and memories impact on the body and mind, causing symptoms such as stress, depression, sleep deprivation, overthinking, alter-ego’s, dissociation, phobia’s, anxiety or panic attacks.

Maybe you feel that you need support in finding ways to make changes and move towards a happier future?
